Partnerships
International Collaborative Programs

The Institute believes in bringing the “Best Together” and the
‘Best’ can include technology, training, quality, Health Education
and various other areas in Biotechnology. People at the Institute,
work hard to deliver quality training with the best available
knowledge, information and technologies. They also believe in
fostering partnership with organizations and individuals, who would
add value to the Institute’s goals and mission.
School based Teen age Education Program (STEP)
The STEP Program established between the Institute and Albert
Einstein College of Medicine, New York, US, constitutes one of the
vital programs as part of its mission. This school-based program is
an interactive awareness program for adolescents (eighth and ninth
grade students) to understand, acquire tools and learn skills that
can equip them with safe, healthy and a secure future. The objective
of this program is to develop and implement an effective
school-based training module for adolescents on Health Education,
Alcohol Abuse, HIV/AIDS, Diabetes, Coronary Artery Disease (CAD),
cancer and other health related issues.
The Institute is also developing a software-driven module for
information and management of diabetes in English and other local
languages. According to World Health Organization (WHO) estimates,
India will have highest number of diabetes cases in the world. The
management of diabetes is complicated and expensive as there is no
cure at this point in time.
The Institute is exploring opportunities for partnerships to act as
trainers/resource providers, who may be interested in taking up
these causes. The Institute will be prepared to work with these
organizations (public/private) in identifying and developing new
programs in several health areas. We are also open to partnerships
with mobile communication companies to incorporate key health
messages.
Clinical Trials Training Program
The Institute has launched a long-distance learning partnership
program with the National

Institutes of Health (NIH), US, to offer a
comprehensive training course in “Clinical Research Trials.” The NIH
is the world premier organization in the world in biomedical and
health research (
www.nih.gov).
The vital objective of this partnership between the Institute and
the NIH is to foster a Good Clinical Practice (GCP) curriculum for
building global standards, infrastructure and training for
conducting clinical trials/research in India. The Institute believes
that this comprehensive module will help train competent personnel,
who can conduct and manage clinical trials as per global standards
that could meet regulatory requirements in India as well as in other
countries.
Course Objectives
• To make trainees understand the principals, practices, and methods
in clinical research/trials, including study design, data
collection, statistics, data analysis, data reporting and
management;
• To teach trainees with the basic methods involved in epidemiologic
clinical research that is necessary even for developing countries
like India;
• To teach the principles of ethics, legal issues and regulations
involved in clinical research/trials, including the role of IRBs in
clinical research;
• To teach trainees in patient-oriented research, including
monitoring, tracking, and reporting adverse events; and,
• To provide an overview of the infrastructure required for clinical
research and of the steps involved in developing and funding
research studies;
• To provide an understanding of the regulatory guidelines
(European, US-FDA and Indian guidelines) for clinical trials (Phase
I-IV).
People at the Institute believe that this course will be ideally
suited to clinical investigators, who are and plan to be involved in
clinical trials, practicing clinicians, medical graduates, allied
health professionals (nursing and pharmacy graduates) and other
graduates, who might be interested in clinical trials. It is also
expected that the students who take this course will successfully
complete a web-based exam to obtain a certificate from the Institute
at the end of the program.
